The weather for today and tomorrow will be in the 80’s. Rain is forecast for tomorrow. The temperatures are beginning to cool a little bit. More comfortable. The days are getting shorter. What does this mean? Yes. Fall is here. People are pulling out their flannel shirts and wool socks. They are getting their wood stoves and chimneys cleaned and inspected. Some of you folks are getting the snow tires installed on your vehicle and finding your snow shovels. It’s a yearly ritual, a rite of passage.
So what haven’t I discussed so far? You got it. That’s right-firewood. This morning I looked at Facebook Marketplace and there were at least a half dozen ads for firewood. I have enough firewood to sell this year. It is all dried and properly seasoned.
Last year at this time, I was totally behind. I was recovering from an open heart surgery and the recuperation period stretched into the late summer. When I was medically cleared, I had logs to cut and split. While that was going on, Builders were constructing our new building. As the building was being completed, we began moving out of the old, dilapidated shack. After the old building was vacant, we began the overwhelming task of demolishing the old rotten structure. Along with the demolishing, the building was filling up the 20 yard roll off dumpster. Often working in inclement weather, we slowly made progress by board by board being deposited in the dumpster. When we finally completed the demolition project, the weight of the construction debris exceeded 3 tons.
Back to firewood for the 2024-2025 firewood season, business was brisk. I was selling out fast and I had to outsource my firewood just to keep my customers. I vowed that would never happen again and this year we are ready. I hope to hear from
you all.
