As 2025 draws to a close, we set our sights on 2026 with hopes that we will continue to improve as a company. Some of our goals for 2026 are adding new products to our line of firewood accessories. I want to thank all of you for your patronage and support.
Recently I have had numerous requests from prospective customers to purchase our firewood. Sadly I must report that we do have firewood,unfortunately I cannot sell it. Currently I have a pile of split ash that is covered in snow. The other day I randomly pulled several pieces of firewood and tested the moisture content. The moisture content readings were in the range of 13 to 17 percent moisture. These readings are less than the recommended 20 percent allowable moisture. In order for me to provide sellable firewood to my customers, I have set a standard of a moisture level of 9-11 percent. This ensures that your firewood will burn at a higher temperature and reduce the amount of creosote in your chimney. From my personal experience burning wood even at the allowable 20 percent moisture content, the firewood is slow to ignite, produces a heavier smoke as it burns off the moisture. Drier firewood produces less creosote evidenced by the annual chimney cleaning I perform yearly. The result is less ash that is scraped off the chimney walls.
